Traditional Healing in Guinea
In the prefecture Nzerekore, in the very south of Guinee, most people turn to traditional healing. Not only because this is what they have always done: also because the modern health care system offers little alternative. That is not per se a bad thing. When it comes to accessability, affordability and acceptability, the traditional healers score much better. Bonesetting and treatment of snake-bites are the most uncontested areas where they score better in quality of treatment. And when it comes to caring, as for people with mental illness, there is no doubt that one is better of in the tradtional domain. More to follow!
