C4C = Culture for Covid and CORONA! Preparing women and girls in Guinea to face Covid-19
Culture 4 Change is supporting Fraternité Médicale Guinée (FMG), a NGO based in Guinea-Conakry, specialized in providing basic health care, to address the situation of the most vulnerable. Within the context of the current Corona crisis, it’s more important than ever to anticipate on the situation of women and girls that have limited access to health services. The 2014 Ebola outbreak for example destroyed an already weak health system and has left serious after effects; from the lack of trust in governmental health care staff to a run for the traditional healers that have very different qualities, to the belief that the ebola virus in still in the semen of survivors and more.
C4C will support FMG in the development of relatively simple interventions and techniques that can be applied and implemented by non-medical staff like social workers, religious leaders, teachers etc. and that help women and girls within their communities to: i) get the right and cultural appropriate information about the prevention of infectious diseases like Covid-19 and ii) to overcome states of loneliness or anxiety following stressful life conditions due to outbreaks or other negative events having an impact on their sexual and reproductive health.
